FEBRUARY 2016

Dear friend,

"Latin Americans have created stunning treasures for musicians and audiences to enjoy and appreciate. It is our responsibility to bring these treasures to much wider attention."

The theme of our next concert arose from this very appreciation expressed by Ed Turgeon who, along with his wife and partner Anne, will take us to this landscape. Albeit as an overview, we hope you will delight in a musical journey to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Cuba. More on that below.

Anne and Ed Turgeon, hailing from Canada, just recently returned to their country after having lived and worked for many years in South Florida. Scroll down for their bio with a twist - in preparing for this newsletter, I asked them a few questions and thought it might be interesting to share with you their answers along with highlights of their curriculum vitae.

The concert program includes the world premiere of a new work by Manuel Valera, a young Cuban pianist-composer whose Migrant Voyage traces the path and the experience of those entrusting themselves to the seas to carry them forward towards a new life: " [It is] a one movement piece which has three main melodies. Different currents of rhythm causing an echo effect. I envision the Florida Straits water current creating a bit of a disoriented feeling." Manuel is the second Bacardi Choice Composer in a commissioning collaboration between Bacardi (the Cuban-born, family rooted company, which has enjoyed a close link to the world of culture and Arts), and Dranoff.
Please read about all the composers - Ginastera, Piazzolla, Mignone, Hahn, Pinto, Ponze and Lecuona - and Valera below.

I added a few photos from our concert in January. It was the second collaboration with the Coral Gables Art Cinema, one that I hope will lead to many more. Great music, great movie scenes, great food, great fun, all swirled together by unexpected great gusts of wind!

Join us on February 21 at the beautiful New World Center for 2 Piano Loves Latin and celebrate Miami's unique place at the confluence of so many cultures and traditions. The concert begins at 7:30 pm. I look forward to see you there!

Warm regards,

Gabriele Fiorentino
President, Dranoff Board
