DECEMBER 2016

Dear friend,

Our first concert in January at the New World Symphony celebrates a great new partnership with the ground-breaking Nu Deco Ensemble .  The program is eclectic and exciting, giving the Dranoff Competition winners,  Duo Yoo & Kim,  and the Nu Deco Ensemble a stage to do what they each do best individually. Please see the section below on the concert.
We are also very excited to welcome composer Frederik Sixten to Miami; he will travel from Sweden to be part of this concert which features his new Concerto for 2 Pianos and Orchestra,  commissioned by former Dranoff Artistic Director, Erik Ochsner. Mr. Sixten is hosted by our generous partner, the Betsy Hotel. South Beach in the middle of a Skandinavian winter might just be irresistable... You will have the chance to meet him during the pre-concert reception on the gorgeous rooftop of the New World Center.

On December 7, we kicked off our 30th Miami Season with a Salon Concert. The Duo performing in this true "chamber music" event were 2008 Dranoff Competition winners, Irina Silivanova and Maxim Puryzhinksiy.  They hail from Moscow and are here for two weeks to perform in public middle and high schools as part of Piano Slam 9.  We also introduced a special performer: young James Balo, winner of the Piano Slam 8 poetry competition. He spoke to guests about his experiences of being part of this program, and recited his winning poem for us.  Attendees included Dranoff  supporters and friends, season ticket buyers and new and current members of the Piano Slam Committee.  For photos, please scroll down.

During Art Basel, the Sagamore Hotel included Piano Slam as a special presentation about the melding of art forms and the importance of giving youth a creative place. Scroll down for more.

Last week, students in three schools were invited  by our partners, the scientists of the CARTHE project at  the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences,  to write their poems on Bay Drift cards and release them as part of the scientific project that traces the currents of our water ways. Photos and more information below.

I am very happy to introduce our new board member, Robert Cadogan. He joins us with an impressive knowledge and experience in communications and public relations.

We wish each and every one of you peaceful and restful Holidays.  Take time to listen to music and to read poetry, take time share joyful moments with each other and take time to recharge.

.

Warm regards,

Gabriele Fiorentino
President, Dranoff Board
