JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER

Happy New Year!

No lengthy recaps of last year, but please find pictures of the wonderful Tribute Concert last month on the side panel. Duo Humburger and Duo Turgeon finished their individual performances with a rousing encore of the Faust Waltzer by Charles Gounod arranged by Renaud de Vilback for 8 hands.

A great thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the pledge drive for the Competition. We are on our way. To be part of this, make your contribution by clicking on the "Contribute" button, or calling Annette Gutierrez at the office.

Another part of the Dranoff is Piano Slam. We have started on Volume 4 with our first ever fund drive via Power 2 Give. It was completed in a little more than a week. Thank you for enabling us to engage Brian Murphy to compose a new piece for the next Piano Slam.
There are only about $20,000 left in the Knight Foundation's matching fund, and we feel a great sense of urgency to fund the second project: dollars to get concert pianos into the 10 public schools slated for live performances this year. The cost is surprising; rental, tuning and cartage add up to almost $10,000. Please - do go to their website as soon as possible to take advantage of the matching funding.

Some other wonderful news: our new partnerships with ArteAmericas: on March 2, Duo Turgeon will play a concert in a special Salon at ArteAmericas. It will pay homage to Venezuelan and Argentinian art and music. We'll keep you informed on details.

Lufthansa and Suntrust Bank have become partners with the Dranoff. We look forward to their presence and involvement in our regular concerts and the competition.

On December 17, Shelly Berg, playing together with Paul Posnak, premiered his duo piano composition "Mary and Martha" at the St. Martha Music Series which had commissioned the work with the intent to make it a required piece of the 12th competition. I will have a recording for the next newsletter.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the foundation and encouraged us to keep going forward.

I hope to see you where the music plays!

Gabriele Fiorentino
